Clyde SPAN Minutes: 06-07-2016

The minutes of the June 7, 2016 meeting of SPAN held at 70 Glasgow Street at 7:00 p.m.

Present: Tom Castellano; John Robert; Hugh Miner; Len Gromoski; Sandi Bastedo; Rick Colquhoun; Kelley Farrell; Bill Thoms; Joan Thoms; Steve Moore; Rose Jeanne Strakal; Dave Hickey; Jane Roberts;  and Gene Stefanucci.

1 John Roberts moved to accept the May 2016 minutes seconded by Rose Jeanne Strakal. MotIon carried.

2 The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $5089.86.

3 Rose Jeanne reported that we now have 69 members. She will send an updated list to Dave.

4 Steve Moore spoke about the upcoming Art in the Community project. There will be a display of North Rose  art award ‘ creations in SPAN’s  headquarter windows. He is looking at a possible event, like “spaghetti dinner and paint” night He is tentatively looking at Wed., July 27th with a 5:30 start. There was a discussion about ordering tee shirts.

5 Hugh Miner talked about the Lauraville Loop campsite. Sat. at 2:00 p.m. on June 11th is set aside for a time for volunteers to work on clearing the area and improving the trails and tent areas. The village board and other interested citizens are invited to walk the trails and view the tent areas on Tues, , June 14th. Mr. Stuerwald has been finishing up his work on the picnic tables and will soon be delivering them. John Robert was going to provide the stain for the wooden tables.

6 June 4th is National Trails Day. There will be an unveiling of the mural in Savannah. Bob Oaks who has offered his continual support for Close the Gaps will be at the ceremony at the West Shore site in Savannah. There are now two picnic tables a fire pit and a grill at that location.There will be a Close the Gaps meeting on June 22 at 10:00. The county is looking for a grant to erect a bridge to connect the West Shore Trail to Montezuma. Fish and Wildlife and DEC are exploring ways to cross the dike. The next SOAR meeting will take place at the Wiley School house at 6:30 on June 20th.

7 The “Read to Me” banners (30) will be erected at the school, the library, and at Robert’s hardware. The village will place one on Papa’s Place, facing the bridge. More books are arriving at the Red Book Case shelves at 70 Glasgow St. Volunteers are welcome to help clean, sort and deliver the books.

8 Hugh mentioned the 100 mugs stored in his shed. At @5.00 each we could make profit of $400. Hugh is trying to find a date for the Liverpool group, the Harmony Collective” to perform at a community event. Sandi moved to set aside $300 to defray expenses if Hugh can make arrangements. Len seconded the motion. Motion passed.


9 A community yard sale has been proposed by the Lyons Main Street group that will include Savannah, Clyde, Lyons and Newark on August 6th. The village will waive any fees for this event. It will be advertised in the local papers and on the Internet. SPAN is considering having a booth in the area once occupied by Al’s Diner.

10 Rose Jeanne would like some help in placing the annual snapshot photos around downtown on the week of August 8th. We can use Messinger’s again.

11 It was announced that the village of Clyde will apply for a Main Street Program grant.
