Clyde SPAN Minutes 02-06-2018

The minutes of the February 6th, 2018, meeting of SPAN held at 70 Glasgow Street at 6:30p.m.
 
Present: Tom Castellano; Rose Jeanne Strakal; Cheryl Bonnell; Hugh Miner; Sandi Bastedo; Dolly Romer; Dave Hickey.

1. After viewing a YouTube show as a “Beat the Blahs” session, Tom Castellano called SPAN to order at 7:07.

2. Sandi Bastedo moved to accept the January, 2018 minutes, seconded by Hugh Miner. Motion passed.

3. The treasure’s report showed a balance of $7,386.40. John Robert was absent.

4. Rose Jeanne gave the membership report.

5. Sandi Bastedo gave a rundown of SOAR’s activity:
    On Feb. 4th there will be a Community lunch & SOAR meeting at the Clyde Methodist Church, RSVP by the 9th.
    We are planning our next bus trip.
    Savannah is planning a mural to be painted on the fire hall.
    A new 21 day challenge is in the works, starting on the first day of spring, March 20th.
    Thinking of starting pedal ball and/or pickelball.
    In May we have to reapply for funding to the Greater Rochester Health foundation.

    John Robert and Sandi are looking into buying some kayaks
    We are hoping for some funding from the town and village. School busses might be available, for a cost, for shorter trips, e.g. Auburn.
    We are thinking of a canal boat ride event for July, perhaps 2 short rides and one long ride. Details are pending

6. Hugh Miner moved “…that SPAN donate $250. To support this year’s Clyde Community  Farmer’s market”, seconded by Dave Hickey. Motion passed.

7. On March 6th, there will be a painting session at SPAN headquarters. Here is the latest on the March 6th SPAN agenda, excerpted from Sandi’s email:

8. Here is the agenda for Tuesday – 2:00 at SPAN office for anyone who wants to continue to work on the draft complete streets policy – Tom Sawtelle gave it to the village and they have some edits

9. 3:15 PM (meet at campsites) All SPAN members are welcome to join us as we walk the campsite area with Justin Booth (Complete Streets Consultant and avid cyclists).  He will give use suggestions to make our campsites more bike friendly as well as tips on signage, etc.

10. 5:00 PM SPAN monthly meeting at SPAN office  - all members welcome to attend

11. 6:00PM Paint and sip night – bring a beverage to share – alcoholic or non-alcoholic  - SPAN will provide snacks

Clyde SPAN Minutes 10-03-2017

The minutes from the October 3rd, 2017, regular meeting of SPAN held at the MAC at 6:30.

PRESENT: Rose Jeanne Strakal; Dolly Romer; Hugh Miner; Dave Hickey; John Robert; Cheryl Bonnell; Sandi Bastedo; Tom Castellano; and Debbie Blasczak.

1 Tom Castellano called the meeting to order at &:15.

2. John Robert moved to approve the September minutes, seconded by Rose Jeanne Strakal. Minutes approved.

3. Treasurer John Robert reported a balance of @6402.22.

4. Membership chairperson Rose Jeanne Strakal reported a total of 95 members, Debbie Blasczak being our newest member. There was a brief discussion of what SPAN does and about the Main Street grant.

5. There was a discussion about the Alumni Event at the Homecoming game. We would like to establish a data base. Some suggestions: have an actual float; a bigger tent; music; an emcee.Looking to repeat the event next year.

6 Dolly Romer reported that there were 39 people signed up for the bus trip to Letchworth on Oct. 11th. Debbie Blasczak notified the group of a bus trip sponsored by the Savannah Silver Slippers to Cortland for the Christmas show.

7. Sandi Bastedo ran down some 0of SOAR’s activities:
October 12th trail meeting at the MAC @10:00 a.m.
Soar open house, a lunch hour is planned.

8. Mayor Fremaow has asked SPAN to supply the cost of donuts, cider for an October 14th gathering of villagers at the firehouse. Hugh Miner moved “…that SPAN pay for those items not to exceed $150 -200. “, seconded by Dolly Romer. Motion passed.

9. At the November meeting, a discussion of plans for next year, together with a search for new officers, and a membership drive will be on the table.

10. SPAN will be a sponsor in the CSCS high school production of The Wiz. Hugh moved that SPAN pay a 50 dollar sponsor ad in the program.

Clyde SPAN Minutes 08-02-2016

The minutes of the August 2nd, 2016, meeting of SPAN held at the Lauraville Loop camp area, convened at 6:00 P.M.

Present: Tom Castellano; Jane Robert; Dave Hickey; Rose Jeanne Strakal; Hugh Miner; Kelley Farrell; Briged Heenan; John Robert; Gerry Fremow; and Sandi Bastedo

Call to order at 6:15

Rose Jeanne Strakal moved to accept the July minutes, seconded by Hugh Miner with the amendment of $ 125 “for each village”. Motion carried.

Treasures report: John Robert reported a balance of $3873.03. David Hickey moved and Hugh Miner seconded a motion to “ reimburse John Robert for the 50 dollar expense he incurred.” Motion carried.

Rose Jeanne reported that SPAN membership now stands at 72. Also that the snap shot pictures in frames volunteers would meet on August 8th at 9:00 A.M.  to bring the frames from the Mill Museum to SAPAN headquarters. To wash Messinger’s window: Dan Ketchum; Rose Jeanne Strakal; Tom Castellano; and Jane Robert. Thursday, Rose Jeanne Strakal will inventory shirts, caps, etc. for the garage sale on Saturday, August 9th. Set up to begin at 8:00 A.M.

Savannah Art Fest tees are selling at 10. each. We need to place yard sale signs around the village. If you put a sign up, be responsible and take it down (save) when over.

Kelly Farrell displayed examples of maps of Clyde for possible use in signs and brochures. It was decided to use “Lauraville Loop Campsites” as the official name for the area. It was suggested that we might have future SPAN meetings at the Lauraville Loop Campsite. We might emplace a sign up board to find out where visitors come from. We might construct a bike rack and a platform for boat landings.

The Liverpool Quartet –Harmony in the Park – is scheduled for Sunday, September 11th.

Savannah Art Fest is schedules on Sept. 24 and 25.

Clyde SPAN Minutes 07-05-2016

The minutes of the July 5^th, 2016 meeting of SPAN held at 6:30 at 70 Glasgow Street.

Present: Tom Castellano; Sandi Bastedo; Kelly Farrell; Hugh Miner; Dave Hickey; Rose Jeanne Strakal; John Robert; and Bill Thoms

1 Hugh Miner moved to accept the June minutes, seconded by Rose Jeanne Strakal. Motion carried.

2 John Roberts gave the treasurer’s report which showed a balance of $4858.86.

3 Rose Jeanne Strakal reported a membership total of 71.

4 A discussion of the August 6^th Route #31 garage sale ensued. Such questions as to who’s running it and what should be SPAN’s role were discussed. It was agreed that we would purchase some large lawn signs at $124. apiece. Advertising was discussed and the use of the village robo call system. Also discussed was the possible renting of spaces at the corner of Glasgow and Ford. We might dedicate the fees to the playground fund. Upon reflection. SPAN decided to stay with the usual sidewalk sales including the SPAN office location.

Kelly Farrell showed us her project to develop some maps of the locality of the Erie Canal camp site and environs to include points of interest such as Savannah Dhu. Several SPAN members agreed to work with her on the project.

Art in the community. Steve Moore is working on the spaghetti and art project for July 27^th in conjunction with Papa’s Place,

Hugh Miner talked about the Lauraville Loop Campsite. It is progressing nicely. Perhaps some SPAN volunteers may need to keep the vegetation in check. We could use another truckload of mulch. The sight was explored by some citizens. There is need of a siding platform near the ditch for boaters. We would like to locate an area to fish from the bank and benches for an outlook. There are still some stumps the need to be removed or to be cut at ground level.

On the 25^th, the Galen Historical Society will join us at Lauraville . The Clyde-Savannah Community Band will play, the Historical Society will host a presentation on the Underground Railroad and our Greater Rochester Health Foundation Evaluators will present their findings from the SOAR Health Survey that went out to residents earlier this year.  We will end the night with a walk to the newly created camping area on the Lauraville Loop and SPAN will provide a yummy treat for all.

Hugh reported that the 100 cups are at the SPAN office together with the decals which are ready to be applied. There are 3 or 4 different designs. They will be ready to sell by August 6^th.

Hugh also reported that the barbershop quartet is now in Nashville. We are aiming for an August 21^st concert.

Sandi reported that the village’s intent to apply for a Main Street Grant would need from SPAN and SOAR a letter of commitment. President Tom Castellano signed the document for SPAN at this meeting.

There was a discussion of the upcoming August 15^th celebration.

Rose Jeanne Strakal set August 8^th at the day to place the snapshot pictures around to the businesses.

Clyde SPAN Minutes: 06-07-2016

The minutes of the June 7, 2016 meeting of SPAN held at 70 Glasgow Street at 7:00 p.m.

Present: Tom Castellano; John Robert; Hugh Miner; Len Gromoski; Sandi Bastedo; Rick Colquhoun; Kelley Farrell; Bill Thoms; Joan Thoms; Steve Moore; Rose Jeanne Strakal; Dave Hickey; Jane Roberts;  and Gene Stefanucci.

1 John Roberts moved to accept the May 2016 minutes seconded by Rose Jeanne Strakal. MotIon carried.

2 The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $5089.86.

3 Rose Jeanne reported that we now have 69 members. She will send an updated list to Dave.

4 Steve Moore spoke about the upcoming Art in the Community project. There will be a display of North Rose  art award ‘ creations in SPAN’s  headquarter windows. He is looking at a possible event, like “spaghetti dinner and paint” night He is tentatively looking at Wed., July 27th with a 5:30 start. There was a discussion about ordering tee shirts.

5 Hugh Miner talked about the Lauraville Loop campsite. Sat. at 2:00 p.m. on June 11th is set aside for a time for volunteers to work on clearing the area and improving the trails and tent areas. The village board and other interested citizens are invited to walk the trails and view the tent areas on Tues, , June 14th. Mr. Stuerwald has been finishing up his work on the picnic tables and will soon be delivering them. John Robert was going to provide the stain for the wooden tables.

6 June 4th is National Trails Day. There will be an unveiling of the mural in Savannah. Bob Oaks who has offered his continual support for Close the Gaps will be at the ceremony at the West Shore site in Savannah. There are now two picnic tables a fire pit and a grill at that location.There will be a Close the Gaps meeting on June 22 at 10:00. The county is looking for a grant to erect a bridge to connect the West Shore Trail to Montezuma. Fish and Wildlife and DEC are exploring ways to cross the dike. The next SOAR meeting will take place at the Wiley School house at 6:30 on June 20th.

7 The “Read to Me” banners (30) will be erected at the school, the library, and at Robert’s hardware. The village will place one on Papa’s Place, facing the bridge. More books are arriving at the Red Book Case shelves at 70 Glasgow St. Volunteers are welcome to help clean, sort and deliver the books.

8 Hugh mentioned the 100 mugs stored in his shed. At @5.00 each we could make profit of $400. Hugh is trying to find a date for the Liverpool group, the Harmony Collective” to perform at a community event. Sandi moved to set aside $300 to defray expenses if Hugh can make arrangements. Len seconded the motion. Motion passed.

9 A community yard sale has been proposed by the Lyons Main Street group that will include Savannah, Clyde, Lyons and Newark on August 6th. The village will waive any fees for this event. It will be advertised in the local papers and on the Internet. SPAN is considering having a booth in the area once occupied by Al’s Diner.

10 Rose Jeanne would like some help in placing the annual snapshot photos around downtown on the week of August 8th. We can use Messinger’s again.

11 It was announced that the village of Clyde will apply for a Main Street Program grant.

Clyde SPAN Minutes: 05-03-2016

The minutes of the May 3rd, 2016 meeting of SPAN held at St. John’s School Hall at 6:30.

Present: Tom Castellano; Dave Hickey; John Robert; Rose Jeanne Strakal; Hugh Miner; Cheryl Bonnell; Bill Thoms; Steve Moore; Sandi Bastedo; and guests, Roz Drury; Lois Benning

1 Hugh Miner mover to accept the April minutes, seconded by Rose Jeanne Strakal. Motion passed.

2 Treasurer John Robert reported a current balance of $5089.86 which included a 100. Donation to the Big Red Book Shelf from Pearl Tech of Savannah.

3 Rose Jeanne Strakal reported that we have 4 new members, bringing our total for this year to 65.

4 Steve Moore reported on the status of the Arts Festival. They receive their first check and registration form back. They are working on getting permits. A “paint and pasta night” was discussed as an activity, or a “wine and design”.

5 Dave Hickey called the Canal Clean Sweep in the Clyde area a success. SPAN and SOAR members collected a huge pile of debris, most of which was brought to Lauraville Landing or some bags were left along the trails to be picked up by the Clyde highway trucks. The Clean Sweep concluded with a hot dog roast, after which several SPAN members and other volunteers proceeded to the Lauraville Loop camp grounds to help clear away some of the brush.

6   More work needs to be done in the campsite area. A question of the use of mulch as a base for tents needs to be answered. June 4th is Trail Day. Sandi Bastedo is working with Ann Fenton from the village office to settle some lease and approval questions. May 14th is scheduled as a work day at 2:00 P.M. The Cornell students will return to say goodbye on May 18th. It was determined that grant or no grant we must get the picnic tables made. John Robert moved that SPAN purchase the picnic tables, seconded by Sandi Bastedo. Motion passed.

7 Sandi Bastedo gave a report on SOAR .A Route 31 yard sale is contemplated from Savannah through Clyde and Lyons. Our participation was discussed, perhaps sponsoring a location in the central park. Hugh Miner moved “…that SPAN explore participation in the Route 31 yard sale.”  The Yard Sale is set for August 6TH. National Trail Day is June 4th. Savanna will have a dedication of their section of the Erie Canal Trail at 11:00 a.m. at the entrance to the Trail in Savannah. There is a “Close the Gaps” meeting at the Audubon Society on May 20th from 10 to 11.

Motion seconded by Dave Hickey. Motion passed.

8 Hugh Miner brought up the existence of some 100 mugs in his shed. Hugh wondered if we could have decals with a tie in to the bicentennial of Erie Canal in Clyde applied to the mugs. John Robert moved”…that we pursue the decal format (1 -4 pictures).”  Motion seconded by Rose Jeanne Strakal. Motion carried.

9 Sandi talked about improving our internet image with a facebook page. Barb Monsour could set it up for us. Cheryl Bonnell moved”… that we ask Barb Monsour to set up a facebook page”, seconded by Bill Thoms. Motion carri8ed.

10 Hugh announced a Drum Circle event for June 7th at the next SPAN meeting to be held at Lauraville Landing.

11 There was a discussion about a proposed “music night” with a barbershop quartet from Liverpool, NY.  This might be a part of an ice cream social Friday night in the park. Dates were discussed.
